Hospital Childbirth Preparation Classes

I offer the following non-traditional hospital-based childbirth classes as an independent contractor at Santiam Memorial Hospital.


Monday Night Childbirth Preparation Classes

A very extensive and thorough childbirth preparation class focused on drug-free childbirth, optimal fetal positioning, informed choice, information on medications and interventions if necessary and breastfeeding.
Dates: January, March, May, July, September and November sessions
5-class series
Mondays 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Cost: $25 or free with proof of OHP coverage. Snacks are included.
Preregistration is required - call (503)769-9247 to register with Santiam Memorial Hospital. Registration for all of part of the series is available if you would like to register for only the baby care class (class #4) or the breastfeeding class (class #5)


Saturday Childbirth Preparation Classes

A 2-part childbirth class to better accommodate families who cannot attend the 5-week Monday-night class. Includes the same information as the Monday-night classes, but in a slightly condensed format.
Dates: TBA - classes scheduled as needed. Contact information below if you would like to inquire about a Saturday class.
Cost: $25 or free with proof of OHP coverage. Snacks are included.

Sibling Preparation Classes

A preparation class to help prepare your older child on what to expect when the new baby arrives. Class includes watching a video, hospital tour and creating a t-shirt. Ideas for making the transition easier for parents are also covered. Class is best suited for children ages 4–11.
Dates: June 5, 2010; September 4, 2010; December 4, 2010
10:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m.

Homebirth Or Independent Birth Center Childbirth Preparation Classes

Saturday Childbirth Preparation Classes

A 2-part Saturday childbirth class designed specifically for families planning an out-of-hospital birth. Discussions have a more holistic theme and focus on options available, having an empowering birth experience, attachment parenting, breastfeeding and information on transport if one becomes necessary.
Dates and Location: TBA - classes will be scheduled as needed.

Cost: $50 per couple. Please bring your own beverages and snacks.
There is a 3-couple minimum to have a class, 5-couple maximum

Private In-Home Classes

For families wanting a more personalized childbirth class experience. Topics include the same as for the Saturday classes. Classes limited to the Salem area.

Cost: $100-125 sliding scale per series. Number of classes can be adjusted to meet your family's needs. Classes are a minimum of 6 hours.

Breastfeeding Services

All breastfeeding services offered by Tree of Life strictly adhere to

    Breastfeeding clinic with one-on-one consultation to help with questions and problems.

    Breastfeeding Education Classes For Medical Staff and Healthcare Providers

    Breastfeeding classes are also available to medical staff and healthcare providers looking for tips on supporting breastfeeding women, how to make their clinic more baby friendly and how to increase successful breastfeeding in their clients.
