Hospital Childbirth Preparation Classes

Gentle Birth Preparation

An interactive birth preparation series designed to help discover strengths, face fears and create a joyful and empowering birth experience. Rather than teaching one particular method, these classes honor the mother/baby intuitive connection during labor and encourage exploring what your unique situation calls for. Discussions include physiology, what to expect, comfort measures, waterbirth, relationship building with your partner, bonding with your amazing new baby, breastfeeding and transition to the new life of being a parent. Come to class prepared to participate in some journaling and birth art activities to get ideas flowing on the kind of birth experience you're hoping for.

Anyone planning a homebirth, birth center birth or hospital birth is welcome to attend. Plan to finish the series no later than 3 weeks before you are due.

For in-hospital families, an optional 6th class (or extra 2 hours on Saturday classes) can be scheduled as needed to discuss hospital protocols and interventions (class is highly recommended) for an additional $20

Tuesday night or Saturday day Gentle Birth Preparation Classes are eligible for discounted package with Heidi Helser Photography that includes the Gentle Birth Preparation Class, pregnancy photo shoot as well as newborn photos.

All students of my gentle birth preparation classes are eligible for a 20% discount on breastfeeding counseling services.

Space is limited, preregistration required. Kindly provide at least 48 hours notice if you cannot make it to the first class as there may be a wait list. Full refund will be provided if 48 hours notice is given. Partial refunds are not given for other missed classes throughout series.

Birth Refresher

Need a little review and time to focus on your upcoming birth? This one-time class includes a refresher on physiology, comfort measures and breastfeeding. Class may be especially helpful for women choosing to birth out-of-hospital for the first time or those seeking a different experience than before. Come to class prepared to participate in some journaling and birth art activities to get ideas flowing on the kind of birth experience you're hoping for. Plan to take the class no later than 3 weeks before you are due.

Sibling Preparation

This fun class can help prepare your older child on what to expect when the new baby arrives. Class includes watching a birth video, birth center tour and creating a big brother or big sister t-shirt. Ideas for making the transition easier for parents are also covered.

Class is best suited for children ages 3-11, but younger or older siblings are welcome at parents' discretion.

For families planning a homebirth, birth center or hospital birth who want a more personalized class experience. The number of classes/hours varies based on your family's need. Classes limited to the Salem area.
